Chiropractic care is a sought-after form of care by many pregnant moms-to-be for biomechanical issues (most commonly low back pain) or to simply feel “at their best” for pregnancy.
What is the typical gestational period going to look like for most pregnant moms?
The exact date of fertilization is difficult to determine, so fertilization is typically calculated based on the date of the women’s last menstrual cycle. Other than the potential for morning sickness, moms in the first trimester are typically asymptomatic, which is why medication and alcohol use should be carefully watched, from the moment mom is trying to become pregnant. By the second trimester mom should be feeling great!! Morning sickness has subsided by this point, her energy levels have increased, and by the later half of the second trimester, fetal movements should be a “pleasured sensation”. By the third trimester, mom will start becoming more and more uncomfortable as she approaches her due date.
The baby is growing to fill the womb, putting more and more stress on mom and her musculoskeletal system. By the second to third week prior to delivery, mom will start feeling contractions; this is the body preparing for the birth of her baby, moving baby down into the birth canal.

Chiropractic care is a safe and valued addition to [any] pregnant woman’s journey. “Chiropractic is a safe and effective means of treating common musculoskeletal complaints that often affect pregnant women. The use of chiropractic includes (but may not be limited to): making the pregnant mom feel more comfortable during her pregnancy, helping to facilitate an uncomplicated labor and delivery process, and to help control low back, mid back, and/or neck pain during the nine-month process. More than seven out of ten expectant mothers in a study who sought chiropractic treatment for back pain benefited from care. There are also special techniques some chiropractors are certified in such as the “Webster Technique” in which pediatricians and midwives will frequently refer the pregnant mother to a certified DC to move the fetus from a breach position to a head down (proper) position”.
