Often times, people who play sports like football or hockey can get some pretty heavy concussions. A concussion is when the brain is “jarred’ and bruises as a result of some sort of trauma.

The causes range from a moving object hitting the head, hitting your head during a fall, you could even have a concussion when there is no direct strike of the head and in the absence of being knocked out. The person may also not even be aware of the fact that they have a concussion.

Some of the symptoms associated with a concussion are headaches, reduced level of awareness, sensitivity to light and more. A concussion will temporarily interfere with the way your brain works. This means your memory, judgement, reflexes, nausea and/or vomiting. Unconsciousness rarely occurs but when it does occur, the length of time people are passed out can be a sign of how bad the concussion will be. Some of the more severe symptoms can range from seizers, muscle weakness, persistent unconsciousness, repeated vomiting, unequal pupils, unusual eye movements and much more.

Treatments may require a brave wave test, a head CT scan or a head MRI and smaller tests such as an evaluation of the cranial nerves, pupils, one’s thinking ability, coordination, and reflexes. A prompt, gentle approach to chiropractic tactics can promote healing and should be strongly considered!
