If you’re experiencing nerve pain in your back or neck, you may be a prime candidate to receive chiropractic care. But what exactly is a chiropractor, and how can they help ease your pain? Though many people know that chiropractors provide therapeutic care, they don’t know what they do, or what to expect during a session. When you visit Augustine Chiropractic, we want all of our patients to know the specifics of treatment, and how seeking chiropractic care can ease your pain.

During your first session, your chiropractor will examine the area of pain through a physical examination, as well as other tests such as blood pressure or x-rays. They will also discuss previous medical history and other symptoms you may be experiencing. Chiropractors are trained to diagnose musculoskeletal issues and will work hard to find a solution to treat your pain.  After your examination, you will likely begin treatment during your second or third session. Treatment will begin to ease your pain through care such as:

  • Spinal Manipulations. The most common treatment is a spinal adjustment, a manipulation by hand that causes your spine to realign.
  • Nutritional Counseling. Some chiropractors will recommend a lifestyle or diet modification to accompany chiropractic therapy.
  • Exercise and Rehabilitation.
  • Heat and Cold Therapies.
  • Massaging of Soft Tissue.
  • Electrical Stimulation.
  • Stretching.

All of these methods are designed and proven to help restore mobility and ease pain from your muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue. You may feel stiff or achy after first receiving treatment, but you should not feel any pain from the chiropractic treatment. Treatment typically lasts about 2-4 weeks consisting of about 6-12 visits of varying lengths. While we truly believe that chiropractic treatment can help anyone, it may be best suited for people with conditions like:

  • Back Pain, or Chronic Back Pain with Flare-Ups.
  • Neck Pain
  • Sports Injuries
  • Muscle Strains
  • Arm or Leg Pain
  • Headaches
