Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition that comes up when the median nerve is compressed as it passes through a narrow, rigid carpal tunnel. The consequences of this would be numbness, tingling, pain, and weakness in your hand and wrist.
The cause of carpal tunnel syndrome can be traced back to a few different things, such as injury to the wrist, constant trauma from months to years of work settings, arthritis, thyroid disease, pregnancy and more.
The shape of your wrist is another factor of developing carpal tunnel syndrome, this makes women three times more likely to develop this than men. This mostly impacts adults over the age of 50 but can affect the younger generation, such as music majors who practice playing instruments for hours at a time each day.
After an examination to assess what the contributing factors to your carpal tunnel syndrome are, you can then start a treatment plan to properly heal and re align. Some of the treatment plans may include proper posture, wrist splint, assess products such as anti-inflammatory cream or supplements, ice and more. You may also get manipulated by a chiropractor in the small joints of the wrist as well as the elbow, shoulder and cervical spine. In some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary but, in most cases carpal tunnel syndrome responds well to conservative treatment by a chiropractor!
