Low Back pain is very common, in fact it is the MOST common type of back pain involving the musculoskeletal system. It can become debilitating to the point where patients who have this are unable to continue doing the activities they enjoy.
There are many causes of low back pain. Some of these include many repetitions of tasks, whether that be at your work place or if you are moving houses, over carrying/lifting, sitting and standing for too long, and more alike. Because we stand on two legs, 2/3rds of our weight is supported by our low back/pelvis, this makes arthritis and disk degeneration occur much faster. Other physical causes of low back pain would be flat feet and uneven length in your legs. Non-physical characteristics could be your diet, exercise, lifestyle, stress, anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder.
Regarding treatment, unless a red flag is presented, red flags include cancer, a fracture, cauda equine syndrome, infection or more. A health history is followed by careful tests that will identify these red flags. surgery for low back pain is not recommended until at least 4-6 weeks of treatment with non-surgical approaches are first utilized and an identifiable injury can be identified that clearly is causing the presenting complaints and clinical findings. A chiropractor can help greatly with low back pain using spinal manipulation BEFORE trying on surgery. Many have found success with avoiding surgery and feeling better over time visiting a chiropractor!
