Back pain affects a large portion of the general population at least once in their lifetime. Young people can be affected by “non-specific” low back pain, while the elder population can be affected by “aging affects” to the spine, such as: degenerative disk disease, degenerative joint disease, spinal stenosis, and possible fractures caused by osteoporosis.

Here are some of the few “surprising” reasons your back may be “killing you” –

1. You’re feeling down.
More serious mood disorders such as depression can make it more difficult to cope with pain. Those suffering from depression often have a reduced drive to exercise, sleep disturbances, and sometimes make poorer dietary decisions – all of which are contributors to low back pain.

    2. Your phone.
Prolonged mobile phone use can increase your risk for spinal pain due to poor posture when holding a cell phone or mobile electronic device.

      3. Your feet hurt.
Having sore or injured feet may lead you to change your gait (the way you walk) in order to cope with the pain you are feeling. Changing your gait pattern can cause compensatory movements up the kinetic chain, leading to low back pain.

        4. Core muscle weakness.
Strong glute and core muscles are necessary for proper support and movement of the spine.

          5. Tight, short muscle.
Having tight hamstrings, hip rotator muscles, and/or tight capsules are common problems that contribute to low back pain. Especially after sitting all day, highly likely with poor posture, getting a good stretch of the muscles that have been shortened all throughout the work day could definitely help alleviate or fend off back pain.
