Have you ever noticed how music can alter your mood? From a range of feeling happy, sad, relief, and more, music can also play a role in protecting the brain and helping it function.

There was a study done by the Global Council on Brain health in 2020. There was a strong agreement among experts that music can play a vital role in promoting mental well- being, increasing relationships, and stimulating cognitive skills. This can slow the progression or reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

One of the Global Council’s recommendations is to engage in singing and dancing as these activities provide both physical exercise and stress reduction. The strongest response to the brain occurs when the music is familiar and enjoyed. Hearing something new can also help simulate the brain and release dopamine.

For people with mild cognitive impairment or dementia, music therapy can improve your mood, anxiety, depression, agitation, hence giving you more quality of life. There’s also a study that suggests people with Parkinson’s disease could experience a better ability for mobility and to speak while listening to music.

That being said, look for more way to incorporate singing in the shower or car! Some suggestions include making playlists for different moods, using apps to find new artists, joining a choir, learning to play an instrument and more.

However, if you find that musculoskeletal pain interferes with your daily routine/comfortability, carry out these musical activities and contact your doctor of chiropractic!
