Did you know that chiropractic treatments have a direct impact upon your immune system?
Evidence shows that people who receive regular chiropractic care have greater immunity after receiving treatment. Chiropractic plays a key role in immunity in how it relates to the spine, and also by promoting positive lifestyle changes and nutrition.
The sympathetic nervous system is part of our body that controls the “fight or flight” response. When this system is active it increases our heart rate and blood pressure, and puts blood into the arms and legs just in case we need to either make a break for it or fight our way out.
What it also does, however, is lowers our body’s immune system to conserve energy for the fight or flight response.
The body can activate this sympathetic nervous system even from small things such as work-related stress, poor posture over time, arguments with family or friends, feelings of depression or anxiety, or from injuries and pain. These all add up to lower our body’s immune system and lead to illness and low-grade inflammation throughout the body.
This also places your body at higher risk for things such as high blood pressure, heart and kidney disease, stroke, obesity, diabetes, poor memory and mood, anxiety or depression, and joint pain.
Chiropractic adjustments actually inhibit the sympathetic nervous system by affecting the spinal cord and spinal column. This has a direct impact upon boosting the immune system, as well as lowering our blood pressure.
A proper diet can also help, by eating vegetables and fruits, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy sources of fats. Additionally, vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and Zinc all help to increase immunity!
Routine chiropractic treatment, along with a well-balanced diet and regular exercise, helps to boost your immune system! Maintaining your spine in proper function and alignment allows your nervous system to communicate with every cell and tissue of the body, keeping them healthy.
